The Heart of America Council serves more than 16,000 youth and 6,000 volunteers in 19 counties in eastern Kansas and Western Missouri. Programs of the BSA instill values and assist youth in building self-esteem and self reliance through outdoor experiences, education, instructional skills, recognition and leadership opportunities.

Utility Assistance: Provides assistance to low-income individuals for gas bill assistance. Partial payments are made to avoid utility cut-offs.

A division of United Way of Greater St. Louis providing local coordination for an annual fundraising campaign supporting health and human service organizations serving residents/employees. Funds are allocated through a volunteer Citizen Review Process.

Providing assistance in restoring homes damaged in May 16th tornado. Includes several private property assistance programs for home repair, structure stabilization, demolition of unsafe structures and debris removal.

Health screenings are provided for the following: Cardiovascular, Sexually Transmitted Diseases and HIV, Diabetes, Lead, and tuberculosis. Other screenings available upon request.

Partnering with the St. Louis Area Diaper Bank to provide families in need with a supply of diapers. Families can pick up a supply of appropriately sized diapers or training pants for children ages 3 and under.

Children's Division provides protective services for children, including investigating reports of suspected abuse, neglect or exploitation. Also handle foster care placement.

Offers instruction in birth control methods, included are the Billings birth control method and the rhythm method.

Provides a child abuse hotline for the State of Illinois for individuals and mandated reporters to report suspicion that a child has been harmed or is at risk of being harmed by abuse or neglect by a caregiver.

Provides a variety of mental health support groups.

Provides clothing vouchers to the St. Vincent DePaul thrift store to those who are unable to purchase clothing on their own.

Provides employment transitioning skills to those individuals who are moving from SSI and SSDI to meaningful employment

Offers tutoring and homework help for youth.

Provides a program to educate people about child passenger car seats and to distribute the seats.

Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service.

Accepts children's clothing donations that are not in need of repair, donations are not sold as a way to earn money for the program, a donation pick-up service is available.

Offers nutrition program, long term ombudsman program, in home services, paperwork assistance, legal services, assistance with hearing aids, books on tape for the handicapped, health promotion, information and assistance, tax information, transportation assistance, adult day care, respite care, family caregiver support program, Medicare Prescription Drug Program, and the Missouri Senior Rx Program.

KCHSI provides car seats for program participants.

Accepts applications for social security numbers and cards.

Houses fire equipment and trains firefighters necessary for a quick and efficient response to fires when they occur.

Offers broad range of information: topics include nutrition, business, personal budgeting, gardening, babysitting, 4-H youth, etc. Speakers available. If they don't have a specialist in their area, they work with other extension offices to find the program.

Provides baby clothing to mothers and young children. Items based on donations.

Emergency gas assistance

Pediatric Services: Provides in-hospital new-born exam/care, sick child appointments (usually same day) and immunizations.
