To begin the process, fill out our eligibility form to see if you are qualified to receive an application. Once accepted into our program, you will begin one-on-one homeownership counseling and our pre-purchase education. In this phase, you’ll build savings, reduce debt and work toward mortgage readiness. After completing counseling, you will be ready to get pre-approved for a mortgage to purchase your new home. This might mean buying a home built or renovated by Habitat KC, or buying a home on the open market. Either way, we’ll be there every step of the way.

CHWC is a HUD Certified Housing Counselor offering monthly Homebuyer Education courses. The courses cover budgeting and credit basics, types of financing programs available, securing a mortgage loan, shopping for a home, and finance management. Upon completion of the course, individuals receive an official “Certificate of Completion.” This may be used for down payment assistance when purchasing a home. The certificate is valid for one year from the date of class completion.
