Income below 135% of poverty or participating in Medicaid, food stamps, SSI, disabled benefits, Section 8, LIHEAP, TANF or free school lunch program.
Required documents
Proof of income or proof of participation in a qualifying program.

Contact your telephone provider to apply. For current list of providers in your state, contact your state Public Service/Utilities Commission or go to www.lifelinesupport.org, click on Companies Near Me and select your state.
Fees
Many programs offer free phones and limited talk and text. Most also offer the opportunity to upgrade talk, text and data for a discounted monthly rate.

Lifeline Telephone support provides monthly assistance to eligible households on their monthly telephone bill. Assistance can go to either a home phone or wireless bill. In order to get Lifeline assistance, individuals must apply through their telephone company. Only one discount allowed per household.
