To protect the lives and property of the citizens of Wood River, Illinois by performing inspections as necessary, prevent illegal or unsafe burning, educate the public on fire safety. In addition to responding to fire calls, the Department provides space for a cooling shelter, trained in and responds to Emergency Medical calls, Hazardous Materials calls, Extrication, and High Angle Rope Rescue calls. Service includes Fire Control/Extinction, Fire Stations and Extreme Heat Cooling Centers.
